| The White Collection |
This collection of paintings was commissioned by London Contemporary Art in 1995 who subsequently decided after buying a very large number that there was no market for this style of work. Nevetheless the collection has continued to change hands all over the world, with collectors in New York and Mexico that we know of. Some were exhibited at the Albermarle Gallery London in its early days before it became one of the foremost galleries in the country. A painting from this collection recently sold at Sothebys London for an undisclosed sum. The paintings shown here are the few that John has left, some of which have never been previously exhibited. Their style which is very dependant on the drawn form, owes much to the late Octavio Massoni who first developed this minimalist yet romantic style of portraying the human form and whose work influenced John greatly during this period. The painting "Heaven" was published as an excellent Limited Edition Lithograph in 1996 by Wyatt Russell and the gallery holds a few artists proofs. ( Technical Note: Some of these canvases had been rolled prior to being photographed, they are now flat, and the images will be replaced, in the meantime please try to ignore the vertical stripes on some of the paintings) |
